BERNARDO PUTS ULSTER ISSUES IN NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT

Ulster County Executive Candidate Talks Taxes

with Senator John McCain on Fox News

Ulster County Executive Candidate Len Bernardo (R/I/C - Accord) raised a top issue facing Ulster County residents with Presidential Candidate John McCain at a forum in New York City on Thursday, June 12, 2008.

Bernardo asked McCain how we can reduce the tax burden hurting communities like Ulster County. McCain answered by stressing the need to cut wasteful spending, and promised during the forum to veto pork barrel spending as President. Senator McCain also pointed out that the high tax burden, including a high property tax burden drives people away and hurts the capacity to expand economic opportunity.

“We in Ulster County know the outrageous property tax hikes which were kept in place and expanded by the County Administrator and the current County Legislature. Reducing taxes is key to making it more affordable to live in Ulster County and create jobs here,” Bernardo said.

The forum had 200 community leaders from around the Tri-State region discussing key issues of concern to voters. It was broadcast live across the country on Fox News. Bernardo was invited to the forum through National Independence Party Chairman Frank MacKay.

“Putting the high taxes of rural and growing communities - places like Ulster County, front and center to a person who has a good chance to be our next President is important. I want whomever our President will be to know that there are areas outside of our cities where homeowners are feeling tremendous strain and where taxes are driving jobs out of our communities. I want to fight to change that and bring jobs back to Ulster County,” Bernardo said.

Bernardo is the founder of Data Communique, a financial printing and securities compliance company. Bernardo merged the company into an international printing company, Data Communique International, a 350 person company which he retired from after serving as President for over a decade. Bernardo and his wife Terry currently own two small businesses in Ulster County – Skate Time 209 and Pilates at the Bungalow.

The comment you did not or would not post was: Bernardo asks John McCain, WHO ADMITS HE KNOWS LITTLE ABOUT THE ECONOMY, "how can we reduce the tax burden hurting communites like Ulster County"? What a joke and he brags about it.
