Mike Hein declared he was running for office just 2 days after the last election was over.
Since that time, he has been asking for money - including from those who stand to benefit if he is elected.
For example, according to the February 18, 2008 Daily Freeman, the Western Mohegan Tribe and Nation sued Ulster County claiming they would be entitled to a tax exemption because they are allegedly owned by Native Americans. The real motivation of course, as discussed in numerous other Freeman articles, could be to build a Native American Casino.|
That works nicely with the fact that Ulster County supports a ban on casinos in every town except..... Wawarsing, where Hein's contributor own the property that news reports have circulated for years about the desire to build a casino on.
Money like this has no place in politics and Hein should reject this money as well as every dollar from other Ulster County vendors who are suing the county - where settlements could be made to help special interests at our expense.

What wrong with a casino?I'm not to keen on one being used for political gain but a casino might give the local economy a boost.Watch the ads on channel 23,some group is always providing bus trips to atlantic city,mohigan sun etc. leaving from the plaza or a city parking lot.Another example of local money going out of town.
Don't bet on the Democrats siding with him at every turn. There at least 3 or 4 of them that can stir up some trouble for Hein if they want to.
Actually, 9:29, that is a far from accurate assessment. The County Executive will have veto power over the laws passed by the Legislature, not the other way around. Moreover, he will have a myriad of powers over which the Legislature will not have any sort of veto power. With the current County Administrator system, they at least had the opportunity to fire or demote the holder of that position during their bi-annual County reorganization (as they did with Arthur Smith when the Democrats took over). The Executive will only be answerable to the voters.
Don't get me wrong, this may well turn out to be a good thing, but it is a far cry from the Legislature having "veto power on anything he does."
Furthermore, working closely with the members of the Legislature, the Executive will have the access to influence votes of individual members. That's even before the "horsetrading" begins (if you vote for this Bill, I'll support your pet project, etc.)
Make no mistake, the County Executive will have a great deal of leverage he can use either for or against a Native American casino in Ulster County.
This is just another example of the Good Old Boys network at work that the general public is generally unaware of. Thank you for shedding light on this matter. I am against casinos in Ulster County, and I am glad to have clarification as to where Mr. Hein stands on Indian Casinos.

At first, I thought that the heading for this post was unfair to Mr. Hein, but after reading the post and thinking about it, Mr. Hein is morally bankrupt. I can not think of any legitimate reason why he would be taking campaign finance donations from Indian Tribes that want to build Casinos in Ulster County AND that own property in the ONLY Town in Ulster County that has not Banned casinos. It's a harsh post Ulster Politics, but I must say that you reported, and I decided. Hein is MORALLY BANKRUPT!

Hey Ulster Politics, How about a post about what happened to Blaber's Poll about the Independence line and Kevin Cahill? It must not have gone how Blaber wanted it to, because it is G-O-N-E, and there is no mention of the results. Blaber is such a communist. He only prints the propaganda that he wants people to read. That's how it works in China and Cuba.

Remember, there are TWO reasons people/businesses donate. One, is out of support. Two, is in response to the 'other' guy. Much of Hein's contributors MAY be fearful of Bernardo's stance on hiring private 'consultants', especially those with political connections.
Several points first Bernardo is putting in his own money so he owes no one any favors. second Noonan will fight to keep that date the budget is due but has an uphill fight. Bankrupt means you have no money..... Bernardo has plenty of money in his account. In fact, he has more money in his account that Hein. Bernardo has not had one single solitary fundraiser yet. When it comes down to buying ad time, what counts is how much money you have, not how much money you have raised. Right now Bernardo is winning the money game because he has more money.

Some one told me about this abuse I'm taking if those writing it has any guts they would put there name on it. I have a lot of things to do in my life I don't need to follow Vic or the commissioner around. First the Commissioner lives in another county against state law but rents an apartment in Ulste to make it legal. Second Vic is a political hack with no knowledge of any of the jobs they have given him. He uses a county vechicle which when he first got it was spotted at a local bar in Wallkill I got a call went to check part of my job and lo and behold there he was. Rememeber you open the door now. He commuted 35 miles each way in a county car lets see 350 miles a week on the taxpayers. He is Mike Heins campaign manager did he use that for political reasons????? I work very hard at my job in the legislature for a little bit of money and I am fortunate to be able to do that. If any one would like to call or e-mail me and question what I do please feel free to do that. Also I have no relatives that work for the county and do what I do for the taxpayers who were good to me when I ran my business. And I would be open to anyone who believes this stuff to call me since anonymous will probably not have the gut to call and I'm sure he has my number but if anyone else would like it I will post it or tell the clerk to give it out NOW PUT UP OR SHUT UP!!!!!!

And on the political front, I just got an email copy of the Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation Network Newsletter, which announced the Upper Hudson Central Labor Council endorsements for County office, and their pick for Comptroller, based on a questionnaire and interviews...

Yep, Ellenville's "favorite son" candidate, Elliott "How am I doing?" Auerbach, becomes one of the FEW Democrat-line candidates to ever blow this endorsement from the consortium of area unions... and lose it to a Republican no less!
Add this to his NOT getting the CSEA endorsement (Which also went to Quigley! Maybe being willing to have thrown the Ellenville Hospital under the bus when it was struggling to get local support, and with it the CSEA workers there, had something to do with that?), or even the Wawarsing Democratic Committee endorsement, and one can see a real pattern here... those who KNOW Auerbach and his record the most are LEAST likely to support his candidacy!
So much for his "100% pro-union record"! (Another myth with no substance!) And his "unique qualifications" for the office, as I believe was related in Blaber's blog earlier; well, even a lipsticked pig has "unique qualifications" for any office, but that doesn't make them the RIGHT ones!
I still would love to see a listing of the personal and professional "successes" that keep getting alluded to but never get spelled out in all the breathless hype!
Speaking of which, whatever became of "Lou S." who posted the original two fulsome paeans to Auerbach in Blaber's blog, but then, after I outed him AS Auerbach posting through a sock-puppet, "Lou" was never heard from again, and never came back to say he WASN'T Auerbach... nor did Elliott post to deny my charges!
Why doesn't Blaber check out the source email address of those and other pro-Elliott ANONYMOUS posts here to see if they all originate from the same email address, particularly if that address is in his Village Hall office computer?
(And "fair and balanced" Blaber REFUSED to post this message; I guess he can't stand to hear the truth when it goes against his fantasy beliefs.)
Oh, and Elliott was NOT at the Village Board Meeting Monday night, for the third time in four meetings, even though he probably COULD have arranged with the HVALF folks to schedule him early so he could have been back in time to do his JOB.
Guess he's not really that interested in being Village Manager that much any more, now that he's mucked it up so, and is hoping to skip town ON OUR DIME, campaigning while he's getting PAID BY US to keep an eye on the Village business!
Maybe the Board should look closely at whether there's some conflict of interest going on and conclude that, if he really doesn't want to BE VM any more, they should help him in his desire by speeding his exit and letting him campaign FULL time at HIS OWN expense?
Or on the dime of those like the Mohegan's attorney (and formerly with the Modocs... remember them?), David Lenefsky, who gave Auerbach $1000, after which Auerbach came out supporting the tribes bid for a casino as a "must happen quick" deal.
