The Daily Freeman is reporting on page A2 of their Wednesday, October 2, 2008 edition in their Law and Disorder section.
The following items are based on information provided by officials in law enforcement and the criminal justice system.
*DWI: Brittany L. Turner, 26, of New Paltz, was charged with misdemeanor drunken driving and driving with a blood alcohol level over 0.08 percent after a 1:51am Tuesday arrest on John Street near Colonial Drive by State Police at Highland. Turner was released to a third party.

How can a DWI be considered a misdemeanor?
That is a VERY serious offense.
KARMA!
scumbags... what is this Fox news?
Can you say..... "what comes around goes around"
If you type in her name to google you can find a link to her myspace page where she has pictures of her breasts and other VERY inappropriate images... It is clear that she has an alcohol problem and now she has put the driving public in harms way by getting behind the wheel of a car DRUNK. This woman continues to show BAD JUDGMENT over and over again and cannot be taken seriously. I hope she learns her lesson and realizes that in order to be taken seriously you have to WALK THE WALK and not just TALK THE TALK.
10:18..... she's the one who got the DWI, and there is no excuse for that.
SHE has made herself a public figure.
SHE could have KILLED someone.
This is a serious CRIME,and you call Ulster Politics scumbags for reporting that.
The only scumbags out there are the Hein people and the media that are complicit in distorting the IDA issue with Bernardo.
Even Brittany Turner, Ms. Ulster Publishing Columnist and Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation Coordinator herself, before she got the DWI admitted that Bernardo had done nothing wrong and that all she wanted him to do was say it.
Her beef and the HVALF beef is with the IDA, not Bernardo. They just used him to bring light to their issues with the IDA.... like Colony Liquors leaving because of them..... and that the Ulster County IDA has created zero jobs in the last 3 years under the leadership of Democrats March Gallagher and Mike Berardi
I think that Ulster Publishing and the Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation should re-consider whether they want to be associated with a person that drives drunk.
She is very public in her association with both groups. Personally, I don't believe that they would condone drunk driving, but then again, you never know.
Fire the criminal.
We don't need drunk drivers representing organized labor.
She gives us workers a bad rap.
We have families too and we don't want drunk drivers on the road.
What bullshit it could have happened to anyone. Britt is a great girl and I was with her that night and she was fine. You people should have a heart and realize that this has been a tough day for her.
Could have happened to anyone? IT SHOULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE WHO GETS BEHIND THE WHEEL DRUNK!
She is lucky she didnt kill herself, OR WORSE, an innocent bystander!
Shame on her! What a disgrace...
Oh come on 10:24, are you kidding me? Inappropriate pics and a drinking problem? Looks like a NORMAL 20 something girl, having fun.
BTW, You realize there are like 30 "Brittany Turner" my space users. Are you looking at Brittany from Maryland? Or the one from California? Maybe you should try + "new paltz" in your search.
This is not something to exploit, in an attempt to ruin someone's life. Anyone here over 40, remembers a time where open containers were ALLOWED, so long as you weren't drunk. If you are over 50 can remember a time when, a policeman would DRIVE you home or to the station so you could sleep it OFF, not treat you like a criminal. It is only in the last 20 years, DWI has been trully criminalized.
If all these 'draconian' (a word used frequently by the legalize drugs crowd) measures pushed by dozens of special interests worked? Then why do we have 6 to 12 police blog entries EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND of some DWI arrest? Sounds kind of like the "War on Drugs", doesn't it?
now she ranks up there with jeremy blaber and his successes.LOOSER
I personally agree with you Joe, I just find it funny that someone like BT who stood up on her self-proclaimed, spotless pedestal, while she pointed fingers at Bernardo claiming he was breaking the law, now finds herself in the thick of it. I've found myself in trouble numerous times, in my younger years, but I was never in a position to judge others, especially in the public eye. I just find this to be a bit karmic, to say the least...
That's it. I figured it out, this incident put me over the top.
This is all the BPC, The Bi-Partisan Conspiracy. For the first time in history the country the Democrats and Republicans have teamed up to become the BPC and declared war on the blog world.
They have taken out Blaber, Kingston Koolaid, and now B. Turner. The whole Turner thing shows that this is on the next level with Law Enforcement joining the BPC. Who knows how high this goes, the Urgent Task Force, FBI, ATF, ACLU.
Who is next? Be very afraid bloggers.
Did anyone on here tell her to go out get drunk and drive? I didn't think so.
If you want to dance, you have to pay the band.
No Mercy!
Wonder if the cops were union guys?

I typed in Brittany Turner and New Paltz after reading the 10:24 comment and I did see her profile with pictures of her breasts, middle finger, etc. It was deplorable. Now if you follow the link above, you will see that she has set her myspace to PRIVATE.
11:29??? bullshit??? it could happen to anyone???
yeah, you are right, it could happen to anyone who drinks enough blow over a .08!
if the POLICE thought she was "fine", then why was she arrested?
people will make up EXCUSES for anything these days.
why don't you tell it to Mothers Against Drunk Drives.
I have to be honest, is there something I missed that stalking peoples Myspace Accounts is cool and what people do with their free time?
Brittany is an honest and decent person who made a mistake. No one is saying that it is inexcusable, but she got a DWI, she didnt kill someone in cold blood, which apparently is what alot of people on here parallel it to.
Drinking and Driving is by no means condonable, however she made a mistake, and Im sure all of you posting up here about her, judging her, making hateful remarks about her have never made a mistake yourselves, Im sure.
She is in her 20's and is trying to enjoy herself, the fact she has pictures of her up that YOU may deem inappropriate does not necessarily mean they are. Who made any of you the final judges as to appropriate or not.
Even if there are pictures of her chest or her with her middle finger up, you obviously were not there for the pictures and can be taking it out of context.
Brittany has her own LIFE to deal with right now, and frankly all of you snooping into her websites because of it really doesn't reflect well on you.
Noone was hurt, nothing happened, she will deal with her personal issues personally, and honestly, she set her profile to private because she obviously has to deal with myspace stalkers like you.
We are going to give Brittany the same treatment that she gave Bernardo :)
He's a nice guy too!
No one was hurt because the police ARRESTED Brittany BEOFRE she could hurt someone.
If Brittany had killed one of your loved ones, after her drinking binge, you wouldn't be making excuses for her selfish behavior.
Who in their right mind drinks and drives in this day and age? Have you ever heard of ".08, don't blow it"?
Ms. Turner needs to do some serious reflecting on her actions and take FULL RESPONSIBILITY.
If this happens to her again, it will be a FELONY. That's serious stuff.
This girl has put herself out as a public figure. She writes a column for Ulster Publishing for Gods sake. She did something very wrong. Spend your time consoling her, not trying to convince us, because us law-abiding citizens are not buying it.
She BROKE the law and put others in SERIOUS jeopardy by driving a vehicle after drinking late at night.
She is my worst nightmare when I am driving on the roads around here.
Brittany,
We know this is you posting from your computer. IP addresses are traceable. Your address is easily identifiable because you always used to use your name when you posted.
You should really stop pretending to be anonymous. Get some help.
An arrest is an allegation of wrongdoing, and must be proven in a court of law. Before you burn this young lady at the stake, understand that there are evidentiary issues that must be proven, the last time I checked this is still the USA, Ms. Turner is INNOCENT until conviction or plea.
She is a public figure around here and any thing she does will be blown up. If Bart Robins or Troy Ashdown got a DWI it would be front page news. She has to deal with that as would any public figure.
She should step down as ALF coordinator and find another job were she should fly under the radar.
People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
Was Blaber drinking with her too.
Since when is googling someone's name "stalking" ?
She may be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, but NOT IN THE COURT OF PUBLIC OPINION.
A DWI is prima facie evidence of BAD JUDGMENT.
Case Closed.
Blaber driving with no license and Britany getting a DWI. Blaber has a hot new girl friend.
First of all, you didn't just google her name, as I did myself, and I found no Brittany Turner from New Paltz, but lists and lists of other people. What DID finally come up was her professional pages, and it was not until I googled Bubel's suggestion that I even saw a myspace page. Lets not start out with dishonesty here on this blog.
The fact of the matter is, what her pictures are of and what her life was prior to this is irrelevant. Who Ms. Turner was with, what pictures she took, are none of your concern. All you are is an opinion about it, you are not a judge, nor a court of law, nor were you there.
The fact of the matter is, you all found her websites, and then made sure you posted the link up and wrote all about how shameful she is. Maybe its not stalking, its just you have way too much time on your hands and get joy out of being part of other people's misery.
ALso where do you see claims that it wasnt bad judgement? I dont think anyone has argued that on here. She made a mistake, noone claims otherwise and she is a public figure yes. I assure you, plenty of public figures have gotten DWIs, so dont act like its shocking,
IF DWI was no longer a concern in out society, we wouldn't be charging people with it.
You expect every 'public' official to be on par with the Virgin Mary, is that it?
You wonder why we can't get decent people involved with politics.
I forgot to mention before, do I think BT would have exploited a similar situation happening to a certain candidate? Yes. Do I think she will now? No. She will learn from this.
BTW, due to pressures, DWI happens to be a (unconstitutionally) guilty before AND after proven innocent crime. In the lower 7 counties of NY, you lose your car immediately, AND you don't get it back even if proven not guilty. Here in Ulster you lose your license immediately, unlike Dutchess. Now there is equal protections.
I feel sorry for Mrs. Turner. We shouldn't take delight in her misfortune. I strongly disagree with her distorted view of the IDA issue with Mr. Bernardo. We all have made mistakes or had errors of judgement. What does it say of us, who sign our names anonymously, picking on a person who has signed her name. How will we ever win the hearts and minds of those who differ from us and allow them to contribute to our vision of a better government? Mrs. Turner will you marry me?
It would be prudent for Jim Quigley and Mike Hein to distance themselves from Brittany Turner. She has been very active in both campaigns as the liasion from the unions that endorsed both of them.
Continued involvement with Ms. Turner by both Quigley and Hein is tacit approval of her drunken driving.
Brittany go have a drink and relax. Try not to drive this time. Because next time you get a DWI, it will be a felony.
Maybe your union buddies can get you into Veritas Villas until after the election so you won't embarrass Hein and Quigley again.
Can we FOIL her mugshot like they do on TMZ?
Does anyone think that Brittany Turner would have cut Elliott Auerbach, Len Bernardo, or anyone remotely associated with the Auerbach or Bernardo campaigns any slack if the situation were reversed.
Brittany has been relentless in her criticisms of Auerbach and most recently of Bernardo supposedly "breaking the law". Which was debunked in today's Ulster County Press.
I think that most people would have more sympathy for Brittany if she had been a little less obnoxious in her posts about other people.
She put herself in the spotlight on the blogs. It's where she crawls around on her computer. It's only fitting that she's getting her justice here as well.
It will all go away eventually. Maybe not as quickly as she wants, but that's because she's young. Time moves much slower when you are that age.
And the answer to my first question is NO. BT would not have given anyone even remotely connected to the Auerbach or Bernardo campaigns ANY slack if they got a DWI.
Remember, don't ever, ever drive if you, or anyone else, thinks that you may have had too much to drink. And don't let anyone else. That includes reporting drivers who may be drunk. It's always safest not to drink and drive.
“We’re to the point where almost everyone knows that [he or she] shouldn’t drink and drive. The people who are still doing it are choosing to do it. The most effective way to deal with them is to arrest them.”
— David Kelly, Virginia chapter of MADD, in The Washington Post, December 2002
Drunk drivers kill - period.
im sick and tired of so called people in the know get perfered treatment.well that shouldn't be.instead of protecting all the brittney turner's and jeremy blabers.praise the police officer for doing his job all us tax payers paid him to do.to bad she got involved.to bad.suffer.its the law.
Not sure why UP rejected my earlier comment on this. Maybe because this topic is not on the merrits of current DWI law. But here I go again.
No one goes out with the intention to drive while impaired. No one gets in their car after drinking too much, EXPECTING to get busted, and most of the time, think they are only 'border line'. If David Kelly understood how the brain works on alcohol, he would see the stupidity of his statement. Why do we continue to have 6+ arrests every Friday and Saturday night, each week? Do the math, how many new jails would we need?
buzzed driving is drunk driving and drunk driving kills. period.
To 10:47:
Bottom line up front - YOU ARE DEAD WRONG.
As a civilian MEDEVAC helicopter pilot, I have seen firsthand the aftermath of drunk driving, the needless deaths and devastation to families, the bewilderment of someone who just 10 minutes prior did not have a care in the world, and the tragic realization that a split second decision to drive while impaired by alcohol could result in such destruction to both the offender and victim(s).
I cannot count how many times I have awoke in the wee hours of the morning to respond to an accident scene to find a children, teenagers, adults, senior citizens, or a combination thereof killed/critically injured from DWI.
I have seen a 18 year old girl who killed a 60 year old wife, mother, and grandmother while DWI.
I remember the 18 year old young man riding in a vehicle driven by his friend who was DWI. He was thrown from the car and killed.
I remember the 4 year old child who died upon arrival at the hospital. His father was riding an ATV drunk and rolled the vehicle over and crushed his son.
I could go on and on... I responded on average to 3 DWI accidents per week in Ulster County alone.
Anonymous 10:47, if I could show you photos of what I have seen--the gore, dismemberments, deaths, the senseless loss of life, families torn apart, YOU and others who think "borderline" drunk driving is O.K. -- people might think twice before jumping behind the wheel of a 2,000+ pound of steel in any impaired state! That includes being sleepy, on prescription or illegal drugs, and of course, alcohol.
David Kelly is right--an arrest and loss of your license, fine, and lawyer fees provide a costly lesson to a person who is convicted of DWI. When that person has to walk to work in the rain or snow, is inconvenienced by having a hitch a ride from a friend, or is forced to spend his/her monthly paycheck(s) on fines and attorney fees, they will think twice next time before getting behind the wheel after drinking.
It may be a costly lesson, but far better than some of the people I have seen who killed a person or a family after making such an irresponsible decision. How would it feel waking up each morning, knowing you killed someone due to your intoxication? How would you feel each day, knowing you took the life of someone's son or daughter or mother or father? It broke my heart each time I saw a family grieve over someone they just lost due to DWI.
I wish Brittany only the best, and hope she has the support and guidance of friends and family during this difficult time.
anyone else want to chime in "for Brittany" after that?
Now, Annemarie Dibella is getting away with it. Look at today's paper.
You got me wrong, I am not defending BT, nor am I defending the act of Drunk Driving. What I am saying is, arrest after arrest, public humiliation after public humiliation, does it work? Again, I say there are 6+ in our county alone for each weekend night, and that number is ONLY the ones who got caught. If Mr Kelly was right, DWI arrests should be much lower, to a point where we might see only a few per month. Something is not working, are you going to argue with that?
You all sit there, perfect little human beings, decrying the mistakes made by people, as the worst offense against humanity, second only to war. Murder is not a mistake. Gang violence is not a mistake. Sexually abusing a child, is not a mistake. Yet, there are holier than thou people who want to require those convicted of DWI to wear a Scarlet Letter, so they can live the rest of their lives in shame. That, is where, my friends, my problem is. Raise the fines! Take away the licenses (Germany does it for life). I'm all for that. One more thing I am for, not one drink if you are driving. Take the guesswork of "am I over or under" out of the equation.
Talk about "Law and Disorder"... What's this about DiBella?
Every day regular "joe citizen" types are usually only publicly humiliated in the newspapers, not the blogs, when they are arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.
Brittany is getting her day in the spotlight on the blogs because of her very very public role that she plays in politics. Specifically she represents Union Labor, Ulster Publishing and is working with the Hein and Quigley campaigns as it relates to their Union Labor endorsements.
If it were any other staffer associated with any other campaign, I can assure you that the treatment would be the same.
To add fuel to the fire, Brittany was out drinking with her political buddies, Jeremy Blaber and friends celebrating Jeremy's Blabers Birthday in New Paltz. The fact of the matter is she was not supposed to drive, should not have drove, and even the people that were with her are shocked and saddened that she made the choice to drive. Alcohol impairs your ability to make good decisions and Brittany made a really bad choice that night.
Brittany is getting no more and no less than anyone in politics gets when they get a DWI.
The more people try to "defend" this, the more it pisses other people off. And make no mistake these are all lame defenses of Brittany "the nice girl" Turner
Brittany, DiBella, Kraft all Dems see a pattern. Di Bella didn't even get the test. Hit a house leave the scene2 in the morning There isn't anything wrong with the "good old boys" system it works fine Ask Hein
to 9:06. I don't think you want to go there. There are certainly some skeletons in the GOP closet.
i remember the time new sheriff Ken Post "set up " a roadblock after the UC GOP dinner & caught Pete Savago in a DWI charge. it was a minor amount on the blood test but still,, The papers crucified Peter & the Dems had a ball with it.
Nasty politics ain't nothing new,,
Throw the book @ Brittany ,, she is a pompous rude little girl & needs a good spanking.
I also remember a certain GOP appointed DPW head who crashed his car while driving drunk on the Thruway, while on duty, in a county car. He stayed on for several more years and was driven around at taxpayer expense.
Interesting, Keifer Sutherland has had how many? And is still Starring in "24"?
Did anyone read this article that Brittany Turner wrote for Ulster Publishing AND they published.
No wonder she wants the bars to stay open after 2am. She wants to be there drinking.
'After 2 a.m.' campaign relies on half truths
by Brittany Turner
The hours of 2 a.m. and beyond boast some of the best infomercials, stargazing, ideas, diner trips and nightlife. And I can't help but wonder how many of those proposing a 2 a.m. bar closure have ever conceived children in the wee hours of the morning. Surely some good has happened at this time of night.
The group proposing a 2 a.m. bar closure across Ulster County defies the desire of many residents, business owners and law enforcement officers. They claim to be concerned with public safety, yet they advocate for a law change that will have a detrimental effect on the interest of the public. Well, some of public.
For the sake of their convenience and comfort, they are willing to restrict freedoms and risk the safety of those enjoying our community, as residents or as visitors. I'm not sure whose best interest they're looking out for, but it certainly isn't mine. Their arbitrary time selection and unfounded comparisons simply demonstrate further cause for embarrassment and undermine their altruistic sentiments, exposing the self-serving motives behind this endeavor.

"Nothing Good Happens After 2 a.m." seems to have forgotten who populates this community. They also seem to have forgotten their youth.
Yes, but Brittany's DWI arrest was BEFORE 2am. She was arrested at 1:51am
That article that Brittany wrote is ridiculous. I can not believe that Ulster Publishing actually pays this twit to write for them.
I always am interested in the musings, thoughts & posting of this Joe Bubel guy. He's a straight shooter right out of the Wild West
