Sir LANCElot has not done A LOT

Yesterday’s alarming article (click here to read) in the Daily Freeman was a stunning indictment about the incompetence of the Ulster County Development Corporation.

Of course when the Daily Freeman attempted to call Ulster County Development Corporation Boss Lance Mattison he was not available for comment. Not available? What is he out creating jobs or something . . . don’t be silly.

Further stunning our economic development efforts were revelations last week that Ulster county’s biggest priority for economic development according to County Executive Hein is the re-development of “Tech City” (hereafter named “Technicality City” – as in it is Technically available for economic development).

Making Technicality City the centerpiece of economic development efforts is technically incompetent. Imagine you’re Chuck Schumer – do I put millions of dollars into a project with a Landlord with a proven track record of not getting deals done, or do I go try and save the existing IBM jobs in Dutchess County or help the guy in Sullivan County who is putting millions into the Concord resort development project.

We need to fire Lance Mattison as the head of UCDC. Mike Hein’s tenure as County Executive has been shrouded in secret plans, and secret plans to make more plans, and the silencing of public employees by Executive decree.

Lance Mattison has been on the job for several years and has seen business after business fleeing Ulster County on his watch. Mr. Hein – fire this guy – NOW.

I would not blame Lance, no, all the blame belongs to the UCDC. They have allowed politics to stand in the way of development. How can we make any judgemental statement regarding Lance knowing that the UCDC has made it simply impossible for any CEO to do their jobs effectively. The only hope Lance and UC has is if the IDA can bravely re-structure itself to be more competative than our neighboring counties. Of course the UCDC will cry foul and go on about their lofty concerns of giving away tax dollars to greedy corparations, yada yada yada. It's about jobs stupid.

The IDA should offer everything within their legal authority to every single applicant, until we feel that UC has too many jobs and not enough workers. PERIOD. Give Lance these incentives and he may look really, really GOOD.

Lance is a puppy and follows the lead of the dysfunctional UCDC. We had a CEO that gave away the store to every applicant - Chester Straub. He was even good enough to offer money after the shovel was in the dirt. Economic development that shovels money after bad is a waste of taxpayer resources.

Lets count the jobs they created in the last ten years....none of them have done shit.

Fire Lance - he is paid the prevailing rate for his job - lets import someone willing to work for less.

I am sure we can get another guy to bring no jobs.

Fire Matteson

The Catalano Test:

Give him a call at HQ or his cell and then wait. How many days for a return call?

A) 1 to 2
B) 3 to 4
C) never

Again, stick to the rules, a single call to Mario. I would be shocked if anyone gets an A. Hell I called to buy dinner tickets and still couldn't get a call back. At first I thought it was the fact that I'm a nobody, just a hard working Republican supporter. Then, after mentioning at a function, everyone chimed in, Mario is impossible to reach.

Now he placed a person in "Charge of Daily Decisions" at HQ because he recognizes that he is difficult to reach. OK, now we have an acting Chair that has to filter all decsions thru Mario and , get back to you. That will work, here's one better; outsource the calls to HQ to India.

We need Sandy Mathis in Ulster County.

If Lance had half the experience, ability, and "know how" that Sandy Mathis does, we wouldn't be in this spot.

If Hein got Mathis he could spend the rest of the summer golfing because Sandy would take care of business for him.

Mathes know what to do, he understand his job and how to make it work.
I get the feeling that Lance isn't really sure how to make things work.

Lance Matteson is WAY over his head. No ability, no accomplishments. He's gotta go.
