BANKRUPT FOR MURPHY (a/k/a letting those whose owner is in bankruptcy court tell you who to vote for)
OK, so Ulster Politics is veering across the River to Dutchess County (it’s a regional thing ya know), but we couldn’t help but laugh when the Daily Freeman (you know, the one local paper whose parent company is bankrupt), endorsed Scott Murphy for Congress over Jim Tedisco.
This is hardly surprising given that editorial decisions at the Freeman are made in large part by a guy whose wife had an Obama sticker on her car and by another guy who lives in Woodstock – never known for anything conservative.
But really, to think that any company (afterall, the Freeman is a Company) whose owner is in bankruptcy should give advice about who to vote for based on the economy is seriously laughable.
The Freeman hammered Tedisco for opposing the stimulus package. The Freeman claims that we will all be in the poorhouse without the stimulus package.
Taking the Freeman’s advice that without the stimulus package we will all be in the poorhouse, is to take advice from a company that is ALREADY in the poorhouse – bankruptcy court is, after all the legal poorhouse.
Hypocrisy amongst politicians is normal, but hypocrisy among newspaper writers seems to be on the rise as well.
PS – in case anyone cares, the Poughkeepsie Journal, which is gaining market share daily and will end up taking a large portion of market share if the Freeman folds, endorsed Tedisco today. www.pojonews.com

I love it, the Poughkeepsie Journal, which represents this district endorses Tedisco, and the Freeman which has very little 'reader' interest in the district endorses Murphy. I guess the Freeman doesn't care about the welfare of the people across the river.
The fact that any voter would take what the Freeman, whose parent company is bankrupt seriously is silly to begin with.
Nobody cares what liberal Ira Fusfeld and his little buddies think anymore.
Kevin Cahill many be wrong on many things, but he was right to ignore the Freeman for years. If our other politicians would have his courage, the Freeman would be even less relevant (as in relevant as a "1" on a scale of 1 to 10 instead of its current "2").
I recently asked my friend's little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President some day.
Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, 'If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?'
She replied, 'I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.'
Her parents beamed.
'Wow...what a worthy goal.' I told her, 'But you don't have to wait until you're President to do that.
You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I'll pay you $50.
Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out.
You can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house.'
She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, 'Why doesn't the homeless guy
come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?'
I said, 'Welcome to the Republican Party.'
Her parents still aren't speaking to me.
Murphy won't win because he doesn't say "HOPE" and "CHANGE" enough.
6:42, I read your comment 15 minutes ago, and am STILL 'beaming'. Fantastic!
6:42, that story is soooo old. Take a creative writing class instead of rehashing a fake anecdote from 20 years ago.
hey 5:53,,
John Bonacic has ignored the Daily Freeman for years. Way ahead of Kevin (Shelly) Cahill,
give the Senator his PROPS !!!
After reading this morning's editorial I was surprised when I drove by the Freeman's offices to see that the building had not moved from its foundations. The Freeman continues its incredible slide to the left in joining the world wide marketing effort for Pres. Obama with an editorial so vapid it belonged in the advice section.
Dear Abby:
My President is so awesome I cannot believe everyone does not love him. What can I do?

Dear Blinded:
I know, isn't he just dreamy. My advice is for everyone to write letters to the editor and for newspapers to write editorials gushing about our Coverboy in Chief. Don't forget to add snide comments alluding to his political opposition in your letters.
A friend's little girl came up to me the other day. I asked her "What do you want to be when you grow up?" She said, "Secretary of State." I then asked her why not President of the United States. She replied "Cuz everyone knows a woman is never elected to that." I said "Hey, you never know."
She replied, "Hey mister--do you work for the lottery?"
Her parents and I get together regularly for a great laugh over that one.
This is like taking housing advice from a homeless person.
642- This is what this country needs. Forget who you offend. Speak your mind. Common sense has taken a back seat to liberal agenda.
Voice your opinions fellow conservatives. We are now fighting the ultimate fight, whether you know it or not. The current administration seeks to abolish your individual freedoms. They wish to turn you into a collective, and one that can be controlled an manipulated.
Speak up, educate, and be proud of your beliefs. This country was founded on them. They have withstood the test of time, and they are accurate. Liberals seek to overthrow them, but do not fret. Fight for your future diligently, and fight for your children. Fight for your children's children, but do not let your ideas be silenced by the administrations agenda.
