Ulster County has 1st swine flu death

Associated Press - July 16, 2009 6:55 PM ET

KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) - The Ulster County Health Department says the county has recorded its first swine flu fatality.

County Executive Mike Hein said in a prepared statement that the patient was a man from Saugerties who had been hospitalized for multiple other medical conditions. He died Wednesday night.

The death was the ninth confirmed case of swine flu in Ulster County.

The state Health Department says the state had 2,253 confirmed cases of swine flu as of July 3, the most recent state figures available. More than half of those were in New York City.

Part of this is wrong, just FYI. The man who died was among the eight cases that were already confirmed by the lab in Albany. So there are not nine cases of H1N1 in Ulster County--only eight.

Why is it always about Hein. He has the Department Heads so muzzled, that the Health Department can't even talk to the press about newsworthy uncontroversial events.

It's as if Mike Hein just wants "free advertising" for his candidacy by seeing his name in print as many times as he can.

Either that or he's like Ginger on Gilligan's Island who likes to hear her own name repeated over and over and over.

Maybe The Professor could come to Ulster County and repeat Mike's name to him over and over to him.

I have noticed that nearly all of these swine flu deaths have been with people who are suffering other medical problems and have difficulty battling opportunistic diseases. How many people have died from other influenza strains during the time we have been reading about the swine flu.
