DEAR STUPID DAILY FREEMAN READER . . .

DEAR STUPID DAILY FREEMAN READER . . .

That might as well have been the title of the editorial in the Freeman on Sunday, November 29, 2009. The Freeman lamented, whined, complained about the fact that we STUPID Ulster County voters (at least that’s what the Freeman apparently thinks and is not the position of Ulster Politics), dared elect Republicans in Ulster County.

The Freeman lamented, whined, and complained, that the biggest scandals of the last five years in Ulster County – the health department and the jail, were done on the Republican watch? WHAT????

For four of the last five years the DEMOCRATS have controlled Ulster County Government. For four of the last five years David Donaldson has sat in the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature doing nothing about the Health Department.

For four of the last five years Mike Hein has sat as the top administrative and executive post in Ulster County and it took him 3 ½ years to deal with the Health Department mess.

Stunningly, Elliot Auerbach’s report gives a complete pass to Michael Hein. Wasn’t Mr. Hein, during his run for Executive, claiming he was in charge, getting it done. For the Freeman to give a pass to Hein, while blaming Republicans – who have been out of power for 80% of the last five years, and then castigating the voters for electing Republicans is just disgusting.

Elliott, we can only say that if you were the County Executive, and Hein were Comptroller, his report would be beating the heck out of you. You would be his target as he planned his 2011 primary for county executive. You did a grave disservice to your constituents by not slamming this guy’s ineptitude. Elliott, don’t treat us the way the Freeman does. We are not stupid.

Dear readers, would you patronize a business whose owner called you stupid? Well if you are one of the overwhelming majority of voters this year who voted for Don Williams, or Nina Postupack, or Republican County Legislators, your local paper just called you stupid.

The good news, you can buy the Times Herald Record, or better yet, read tomorrow’s Freeman stories today at www.MidHudsonNews.com (most of the stories by “Mid Hudson News Network” are just reprints from the day before of MidHudsonNews.com) .

Anyway, smart readers (see, we don’t call our readers stupid), those are our thoughts for today. Now, do as your local paper commands you and go and think evil thoughts about Republicans.

The editorial in the Freeman began well, pointing out the inadequacies of Auerbach's report and even pointed out the hypocrisy of Hein. Unfortunately, much as an addict always mixes misdirection with the truth, the Freeman veered away into a diatribe against the results of the recent election.

Do Republicans need to share the blame for the mess at the Health Dept.? Of course they do, just as Democrats must share in the blame in the jail fiasco since it was many of them that pushed the need for a new jail.

If the Freeman wants an explanation for the election results they need only look at the policies of the Democrat led Legislature, the growth of county government during their tenure and their failure to stand up to the self-serving actions of the Hein administration.

It is not surprising if you have ever listened to Ira Fussfield on KCR. His views are clearly skewed to one side and he is very condescending. His paper clearly reflects this. Forget the editorials.....some of the most one sided stories I have ever read have been in the Freeman, and that is saying a lot considering some of the news outlets I read. As far as the Republican thing, that is the freeman just trying to puch their/his agenda no different than most news outlets (they just aren't as good at it.)

I stopped my subscription a long time ago because I felt their paper was sinking quick. Now between MHNN.com and the Kingston Times I get most of the news at a much better quality. I still read the Freeman (and Record) online, but that is only because it is free.

It will be difficult to follow 10:09's keen political insight, but I will do my best.

It was inevitable that the Democrats would no longer be able to run against the jail fiasco and instead would be judged by their own works. Those works have been found wanting. There is a great deal of dissatisfaction with the new County Charter. The increase of six figure big shots in the county and the subsequent laying off of rank and file staff is something that everybody, including those who don't pay much attention to local politics, find disturbing.

10:09 the only one I see crying is Cahill, I guess the only real leadership in the Democratic party is the Daily Freeman. Thats a Problem.

2:42, which Cahill is crying and where do you see that?

Congratulations Richard Cahill.

I put on two different Organ Donor Awareness presentations @ the UC Legislature & sent the Freeman two press releases with photos - NOTHING GOT PRINTED !
I organised a Rally for Our Heroes for the New Paltz Volunteer Fire Dept & raised big $$$ for them & got almost 300 cases of bottled water donated by CITIZENS as an act of protest against our idiotic Mayor & Village Board & the Freeman news desk told me they dont cover any weekend events.

They call this a Community NEWSpaper ?

Pathetic,,, their left leaning points of view stink anyway, but not to cover important events like three Transplant recipients telling their stories of Life giving Miracles & the handing out of Organ Donor cards is criminal.

THEY SUCK !!!

It would do all of us good if we stop our subscription to the Freeman and pay more attention to the Record. I might also suggest that the City of Kingston designate the Record as the official paper of the City for 2010 just to see how the Freeman likes them apples! They've been waiting for a good daily paper for a long time. Here's their chance.

The Freeman obviously sees it's days on the right wingers' side as over. Crunch the numbers people, being a Republican is suicidal and the Freeman doesn't want to get flushed. For every angry nut that cancels because they can't accept factual information as reality, ten more start reading. Didn't the Freeman endorse those ugly reds? Now that was pretty stupid!
