Ulster Politics has spoken to several people that were on the cruise and what continues to impress people about Bernardo is his focus on the things that they care about the most: his willingness to work with anyone to bring the change we need. Most people feel that the bottom line is that the good old boys network of both major political parties has brought us to a dangerous precipice in Ulster County. We are at risk for being written off as just to politicized, just too NIMBY-istic, just too unfocused on the big picture – increasing jobs and lowering taxes.
Let’s face it – we need a new approach in Ulster County. The two major candidates in the race for County Executive come from two different backgrounds. Bernardo is completely independent of the old party bosses. He has a record of creating hundreds of jobs. He has never held public office but has engaged in public service in many other ways – from helping those with glaucoma, working to help the Ellenville Hospital, helping young people get off the streets, mentoring those in need of help.
Len Bernardo is the candidate of change in this election . . . but more important, he is the candidate who has the ability to imagine and then create an Ulster County with more jobs and less taxes; an Ulster County which does not export its children; an Ulster County where industry grows and parks are clean.
The 150 people who joined Bernardo on the Rip Van Winkle last night make it clear that Len Bernardo’s message that there is a better way is growing stronger. As Labor Day approaches, and the campaigns move into full swing, Ulster Politics looks forward to measuring the lifetime actions and records of the four major candidates for County Executive and Comptroller, and focusing on how we can make Ulster County into the place we want and can afford to stay in now and for generations to come.

Well said. End all the nonsense start on the jobs. Keep talking candidates, we might even start to listen.
Helping Ellenville Hospital? Just where was he when the hospital was in danger of closing? Where was he when much-needed funds were being raised to break free of Westchester? Where was he during the many fundraisers to raise money for the new ER? For the new PT department? Is his arm getting tired yet from patting himself on the back all the time? He talks about change, but he delivers the same old-same old. The more Bernardo talks, the more obvious it becomes that the man doesn't have a clue about government. Just another empty suit!
I was on that Cruise,,,,
Well attended,,, many newer faces,, not the usual suspects,, refreshing & encouraging,,,
Len was schmoozing well,, on message & yet, friendly,,,
i won the 50-50 - YAY !!!!
Terry was quiet & out of the spotlight, yet very involved,, a good reaction to the Nina - Terry drama,,,
Len addressed his " mistakes" & vowed to learn from them & move on to VICTORY !!
GREAT CANDIDATE & will make a fine COunty Exec !!!
Good 1st public event,,
ON TO VICTORY !!!!
I was there too and I won a Bernardo For Executive monkey!
There were so many door prizes donated that they almost ran out of time for Len to speak.
All of the food was donated by local businesses that want to see Len Bernardo win this election. It really was a community coming together.
As to the Hospital question, Bernardo has just joined the ERH Foundation Board and has been working to help get this board on it's way to success. If he is not a "friend" of the hospital, why would Steve Kelly ask Bernardo to join this Board?
The cruise was a blast!
It was definitely not the same old same old "political people"
There were young people, old people and a lot of people in between.
I was shocked at all the Democrats that were on the boat!
I could not believe that at the end of the cruise that Desperate Blogmaster, Jeremy Blaber, was waiting at the gate for the boat to dock so that he could hang out with the Bernardo crowd.
He then went to Mariner's Harbor with the whole Bernardo crew and held court until late into the evening.
Perhaps young Blaber has seen the light, either that or he thinks he is some sort of double agent spy.
Either way, it was really inappropriate for him to show up after the nasty things that he has posted about Len and Terry on his blog.
The nerve that it took for this jerk to show up and crash Len's party is just beyond my comprehension.
Blaber showed up? Probably hoping for a drink throwing event, or to inform his police friends of possible DWI incidents.
Did he show up in his tux-pseudo t-shirt?
I am trully sorry I missed the cruise. I had been looking forward to it for the last 2 weeks. Sick kid.
I was there and enjoyed the evening. The Rip's Wednesday night sip-n-sail was the perfect venue for Len's fundraiser.
If there really was 150 people there I would guess that 200+ tickets were sold, roughly $10k into the coffer event.
Not bad for his first event!
Can't local politicians of both parties be more creative than the usual booze cruise?
Where do you people come up with these lies? Absolute crap. I guess that's the way it works. Next Blaber and Hein will of been on the boat w/ Len pulling out the 50/50.
I hear the Auerbach event had a lot more people than the Bernardo cruise.
3:16, I don't know what "crap" you are talking about, but if you are talking about Jeremy showing up, Clark Richters has pictures of it on his website.
There were only 40 people at EA's event
Helping Ellenville hospital yes. In fact I'm told Bernardo was at the hospital today in a meeting of the Foundation Board - which he is one with some of the area's other employers and business leaders.
Blaber was there. The Republicans were abusing him. They kept peeling off their Bernardo for Exec stickers and putting them of Jeremy's back.
Blaber didn't know and walked around with the stickers on his back all night.
There is a picture on Clark Richters blog after the first sticker was put on.
You can see Bernardo in the background
Mariner's is a public place and Blaber is there on a regular basis. It was not the location of the Bernardo fundraiser. Len and the gang was there after the boat cruise.
40? Try well over 100.
Yea, but Blaber was waiting on the dock by the Rip Van Winkle. He was like a stalker waiting for them to get off the boat, and he was looking for Len.
Then, once they got over to Mariners, he wouldn't leave the side of Bernardo, his wife Terry, Noonan and some other guy.
He kept talking to Bernardo and his wife like he wanted to move in with them.
They are both old enough to be his Mom and Dad, why would he want to hang around with them all night?
Yea, it's a public place, but you don't have to be a "hanger on" with Bernardo's group. Give them some air and some room to have fun after THEIR, he didn't have to be right in their face the ENTIRE evening.
Being in a public place "coincidentally" at the same time is one thing, but to wait on a dock for someone's boat to come in, and then stick by their side the whole night in Mariner's is no coincidence. He had NO friends of his own their, he was a TOTAL party crasher.
For Elliot's first fundraiser in Kingston at the Hillside the bloggers had well over 100 people attending. Look at his financial disclosure form to see how many of them paid. In addition, the going charge at the Hillside for fundraisers like Elliots is about 20 - 25 dollars per head. When you look at Elliot's Expenses and calculate it out he had about 4o people.
So if he had 100 people at the Hillside his Financial Reports are wrong. Or the Bloggers are Wrong. What is it going to be?
As to the attendance last night. I will wait until I see it in the Financial Reports to believe it.
I was at the Ellenville Regional Hospital Foundation Board meeting today. The board sought out Bernardo to serve with us way before Bernardo announced he was running for Ulster County Executive. He's got a good head for business and is fun to work with.
Bernardo is Ulster County's only hope of breaking the cycle of Good Old Boy politics. People are tired of the way that business is conducted in this county. People want to see legitimate economic development. Enough is enough, we need new blood.
The deals concerning the jail were obscene and the Republicans (most of them) know that, that's why they put up an Independent. There's a few of them bitching that Bernardo is "not a Republican", but those are the people who don't "get it" that the Old Republicans wore out their welcome in Ulster County.
The Democrats have been in power now for 3 years and have done nothing to bring jobs and business to Ulster County. They are chasing companies out and raising taxes.
Bernardo wants nothing to do with corrupt old style politics. He wants nothing to do with people who just want to collect a paycheck.
I'm voting for Len Bernardo in November and I'm telling everyone that I know to do the same.
I got news for you 12:00. The "Republicans" who don't support Len Bernardo because he is "not a Republican" are only saying that becasue they support Michael Hein. They had no problem throwing a good Republican like Holley Carnright "under the bus" and supporting Independence candidate Vincent Bradley. We all know who they are and they are a disgrace to the Republican party. Your analysis is 100% correct. Nothing will change is Michael Hein is elected. It will be business as usual, and as Dr. Phil would say... "How's that working for ya Ulster County?" Ask any business owner and they'll tell you. Ask any business owner in the City of Kingston and they'll tell you about Democratic politicians. They need to go.
What a crappy looking slob! Can you make him look worse? Oh, I forgot, this is the genetically challenged forum. Fits right in.
For what it is worth, I have been in professional development for many years. If I were to critic this photo, I would say.
Even though Bernardo is smiling, when you are sitting or standing, with your arms across your chest people subconsciously interpret this posture as a signal that you don’t want anyone to approach you. You feel superior to them and do not want to listen to what they have to say.
http://heinforexec.com/endorsements.html
Hein has the same "pose" with his arms folded on his website.
Apparently Mike Hein doesn't want anyone to approach him. Mike Hein feels superior to everyone and does not want to listen to what they have to say.
For what it's worth, I can tell when people are smiling and when they are not. At least Bernardo is smiling is his photo, Hein's not smiling at all. Usually when people smile, it means that they are genuine people.
People who don't smile when a camera is taking their picture are usually arrogant, fake and phony. Hein looks like he's trying to look important, and it's not working.
For what it's worth, Sarah Palin has her arms crossed too!
What is it with these politicians?
Didn't they get the message that you are not supposed to cross your arms on the cover of a magazine because bloggers in Ulster County New York say you are not supposed to do that.
I guess they both have the same BAD advisers. They have chosen bad pictures to put in the public eye. Amateurs, what can I say. You will never see a picture like that on the advice of a professional.
Len is obviously compensating for an inferiority complex conveyed by this pose. The poorly tailored suit that makes him look like a bag of crap is only made worse by his crap eating grin. The arms don't bother me, it's his problem to deal with. I had little good to say about Hein's photos either.
The problem Len has is that hge is an independent getting bashed fromm the Democratic and Republican Oligarchs. There is no difference between the two respective Boss Hoggs, Spada & Kirschner, just like Auerbach and Hein are noting more than political oppotunists 1st Hein is a repub. then a dem. Next nobody can support Bernardo without getting the blessing of either Spada or Kirschner, lest they fear losing their State, Local or County jobs. As for the parties Catalano in inept and should resigne, its exactly as Spada wants it and the Dems are in a constant state of infighting which has left them as the party with the larget amount of registered voters but the smallest list of accomplishments, except to call for the impeachment of Bush.
Too bad, for this County to move ahead we need to sweep out 4 decades of good old boy politics.
