Committees to make plans to make more plans

Mike Hein and his administration are the kings of forming committees
to make plans to make plans.
When Hein first took office, he formed
an economic development committee.
That committee made plans
to make plans and then did nothing.

Now we have more committees being formed.
The staff at Ulster
Politics projects that they will make plans to make plans.

We are planning on following this story. We hope that you plan to follow it too.

KINGSTON - The Ulster County Development Corporation President Lance
Matteson has created two standing committees to address its most critical
priorities.
The Business Development Committee will focus on expanding existing
businesses and attracting new ones while prioritizing the creation of more
truly "shovel-ready" sites.

The Balanced Growth Committee will work with the UCDC team to engage and
inform the community and businesses about key projects that could have
significant, positive effects on the region's quality of life.

Did you ever have a co-worker who makes a lot of work for him/herself and looks extremely bus, but never really gets much done that is important. Hein is beginning to remind me of that. He looks busy, mostly promoting himself, but he has not done anything of real substance.

See what March and Lance at over $200,000 can do. I guess they really are earning our money.

Yeah - but he has juice - the City of Kingston is repairing his rental property on Foxhall Avenue right now.

more committees to report on nothing. When will the County Legislature tell UCDC that the money train has derailed?

Looks like a page from the old playbook for politicians and bureaucrats. When you don't know what to do and need some political cover, form a committee.

I suppose we could call the men who came together to pen the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution committees, but the difference is that these men were willing to put their names on the line and take responsibility for the changes they were working to make. Politicians, such as Hein, are looking to dodge responsibility when they create these committees.

I thought Hein was ready to hit the ground running. I thought he had a vision for Ulster County. Well, dammit, let's see it. He asked for this job and was given it. He said he was ready and uniquely qualified to lead Ulster County. We are still waiting for him to lead. Instead of leadership we get committees. Instead of efficient government, we get bigger government. Instead of people working together we have a more politicized county government.

$200 GRAND in salaries alone and they can't EVEN keep a liquor distributor in Kingston?? Perhaps they should raise some more JOB KILLING TAXES as usual and hire some more staff to form some more committees..

I love March and Lance!!! Spending our money like two drunken sailors on their first night in port!

Hey, it's only taxpayers money and we do not have to do anything other than hold meetings!

I remember when the BIG STORY hit the Daily Freeman--"Hein hits the ground running!"

He showed up for work at 8:30 am on his first day...

My, my, haven't we "set the bar" real high for the next county executive!

Seriously, is this what we are paying Lance Mattison for? We are paying Lance to form committees? How about Lance do something??? Obviously Lance has NO idea what to do, otherwise, he would have done it. When you don't know what to do, you form a committee and ask them what to do.

I've been on a lot of "committees", and it is usually a painful experience, and not a lot gets done.

March Gallagher, Lance Mattison and Mike Hein are all STUNNING disappointments and failure to the taxpayers of Ulster County.

Can we recall County Executive Hein?

Maybe another trip to China will inspire UCDC. Another waste of taxpayers' money. How many more Ulster Tomorrow studies do we need? Did UCDC get their allocation from the County all in one lumped sum or are they still trying to show how much they deserve it because they have brought in so many new businesses to the area?

Why would you expect jobs to ever come to Ulster County?? Its one of the highest taxed counties in the highest taxed state in the entire nation.. You can do business anywhere else at a fraction of the cost and you won't be burdened by the layers and layers of usless and expensive government.. Jobs and business have been fleeing New york and ulster county for decades..now they are leaving even faster..The excessive and abusive taxes are rediculous..

1:01 PM It is RIDICULOUS... not rediculous.

Anonymous said...

I think 1:01 knows that. I think the emphasis was supposed to be on the "re" in reeeeediculous....but I could be wrong, maybe they just can't spell

Anonymous said...

1:01 may not spell well, but he/she is exactly correct in his assessment of the job creation climate in Ulster County.

RECALL HEIN!!!

This is getting very old. Every year to six months UCDC comes out with some new plan to spur job growth and attract new businesses to Ulster County...it never fails. Yet wenever hear any results of how the old plan worked or didn't work. (And as we all know it did not work) The plans all seem about the same. Good old Lance needs to step up to the plate and start telling us what exactly he is doing and how it is working. He is getting paid an ungodly amount of money and all we get is new plans every year and no explanation of why the old ones didn't work. This guy is on a short short rope and unless there are some concrete results he needs to go.

Forget rediculous or ridulous or radiculous.. To expect jobs to come to the highest taxed worst run state in the nation is fantasy..To expect them to come to one of the very highest taxed worst run counties in that state is totally absurd.. Now please check the spelling as your property values are trashed the kids all leave and we bring a new low to ABJECT POVERTY!!!

“Good evening. I’m Dr. Charles Boustany, and I’m proud to serve the people of Louisiana’s Seventh Congressional District. I’m also a heart surgeon with more than 20 years of experience, during which I saw first-hand the need for lowering health care costs.

“Republicans are pleased that President Obama came to the Capitol tonight. We agree much needs to be done to lower the cost of health care for all Americans. On that goal, Republicans are ready – and we’ve been ready – to work with the President for common-sense reforms that our nation can afford.

“Afford is an important word. Our country is facing many challenges. The cost of health care is rising. Federal spending is soaring. We’re piling huge debt on our children. And families and small businesses are struggling through a jobless recovery, with more than 2.4 million private-sector jobs lost since February.

“It’s clear the American people want health care reform, but they want their elected leaders to get it right. Most Americans wanted to hear the President tell Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Reid and the rest of Congress that it’s time to start over on a common-sense, bipartisan plan focused on lowering the cost of health care while improving quality. That’s what I heard over the past several months in talking to thousands of my constituents.

“Replacing your family’s current health care with government-run health care is not the answer. In fact, it’ll make health care much more expensive. That’s not just my personal diagnosis as a doctor or a Republican; it’s the conclusion of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office – the neutral scorekeeper that determines the cost of major bills.

“I read the bill Democrats passed through committee in July. It creates 53 new government bureaucracies, adds hundreds of billions to our national debt, and raises taxes on job-creators by $600 billion. And, it cuts Medicare by $500 billion, while doing virtually nothing to make the program better for our seniors.

“The President had a chance tonight to take government-run health care off the table. Unfortunately, he didn’t do it.

“We can do better, with a targeted approach that tackles the biggest problems. Here are four important areas where we can agree, right now:

“One, all individuals should have access to coverage, regardless of preexisting conditions.

“Two, individuals, small businesses and other groups should be able to join together to get health insurance at lower prices, the same way large businesses and labor unions do.

“Three, we can provide assistance to those who still cannot access a doctor.

“And, four, insurers should be able to offer incentives for wellness care and prevention – something particularly important to me. I operated on too many people who could have avoided surgery if they’d simply made healthier choices earlier in life.

“We do have ideas the President hasn’t agreed with. We’re grateful the President mentioned medical liability reform, and we hope he’s serious. We need to establish tough liability reform standards, encourage speedy resolution of claims, and deter junk lawsuits that drive up the cost of care. Real reform must do this.

“Let’s also talk about letting families and businesses buy insurance across state lines. I and many other Republicans believe that that will provide real choice and competition to lower the cost of health insurance. Unfortunately, the President disagrees.

“You can read more about all these reforms at healthcare.gop.gov. These are common-sense reforms we can achieve right away – without destroying jobs, exploding the deficit, rationing care, or taking away the freedom American families cherish.

“This Congress can pass meaningful reform soon to reduce some of the fear and anxiety families are feeling in these very difficult times. Working together in a bipartisan way, we can truly lower the cost of health care while improving quality for the American people.

“I’m Dr. Charles Boustany. Thanks for listening.”

Lets show our support for Ulster county and put up a banner for Glen Noonan. It is starting to look like a forgone conclusion that Noonan, Bartels and Zatz are going to kick Ronk, Terrizzi and Hayes sorry asses. Vote 9/15 for Noonan in primary and write in Bartels, Zatz and Noonan on independence line.
